February 6, 2013 - Isle of Hope, Savannah, GA

We're back on the boat thanks to our second new "best friend" Elfin, the owner of Complete Marine Services, it looks like the SS Minnow (nee CU Later) is ready for a sea trial tomorrow.  Hopefully the trail will be successful and this will not be the last post!  We think so because Elfin is said to be about the best marine mechanic in Savannah and from what we can tell he is.  Our plan is now to spend time both here in Savannah and at our place in Myrtle Beach until around February 18th and then slowly make our way back up to Myrtle Beach.

We are at the Isle of Hope Marina which has great sunrises over the Intracostal.

We learned tonight that on the spot where the Isle of Hope Marina now sits is where the fight scene between Robert Mitchum and Gregory Peck in the 1962 version of Cape Fear was filmed.  Although a lot of the movie was filmed here, it turns out that Mitchum insisted that the house boat scene in the movie that immediately precedes the fight was filmed at a marina in California.  He had been arrested in Savannah in his youth for vagrancy and put on a chain gang and being in Savannah did not sit well with him.
